About the event

(New Orleans, LA) Resilience is Power Program understands that toxic and neglected urban environments impede academic achievement. To bring about environmental progress in urban communities, we must involve youth. In doing so, the Resilience Is Power Program’s mission for its Future Urban Water LEADers is to nurture STRONG and resilient future urban water and community LEADers.

LEAD is an acronym for LEARN EARN AND DEVELOP. LEAD youth will take part in plastic removal and trash removal from brackish marsh across from the UNO Coastal Education Research Facility. LEAD youth will also collect water samples to test for toxic chemicals. A report on the results of the water test will be available at www.ResilientFutureLEADers.org. All youth participants will be paid a $100 stipend to engage in this urban water cleanup and testing efforts. Volunteers and members of Environmentalist With Attitudes (EWA) and New Orleans East Matters Coalition will be on hand to support the cleanup and water test.
